Well the day finally came last week (Friday) when the Apple iPad Tablet came to Canada… and I got mine! I wasn’t the first in line, in fact I wasn’t last either… I went the next day and there was 1 left. I initially just wanted to get the 16gb however they were out, and the 64gb as well. The only one left was a 32gb open box at Best Buy. Apparently someone’s wife went out and bought her husband at 32gb and then returned it the next day… I don’t buy that story either. Either way, I picked it up since it didn’t even have a fingerprint on it.
My initial thoughts are that I really love it! My wife does too. Right out of the box everything went well and everything works perfectly. I did however manage to crash it once but I think it was Skype. I rebooted and everything has worked perfectly since. I connected it to my laptop, synched and uploaded all my apps from my iPhone to my iPad and wow, everything looks great.
In some ways I’m quite happy that the iPad was released earlier in the US however I wish it hadn’t been so long of a wait. The nice thing is that there are a ton of apps now made for it and they look great at full-screen. There are a few lazy companies that haven’t updated their apps yet to fit the screen but I can live with them for now. I’m very surprised to see that Facebook is one of the lazy companies!
There are a couple things I hate to mention but they are fairly significant disappointments. First… flash? Apple used to have a video showing them browse the NY Times website and show it playing flash.. they have since pulled that video because guess what? iPad doesn’t play flash. Hopefully that is just a temporary thing or someone will create a work-around for that. Second thing is that there is no PDF reader built in. I have a ton of PDF files that I would love to view but had to pay $0.99 for an app to do it. The app works great but after spending all that money on an iPad I would have expected it to at least cover the basics. It may surprise you but that was my first purchased app! I’ve owned pretty much all the iPod Touch models since they came out (got a 32gb sitting beside me), I have an iPhone and now an iPad… and I just broke out my dusty wallet and coughed up a buck for an app. Cheap? Ya maybe.
